File manager 7-zip (*.7z) Handling: unzip, and zip files

7 zip is much more effective than your already handled zip format.

I can result at least much smaller archive file size.

Also, it is much faster.

So cPanel users could work faster and use less bandwidth. Ideal, isn't it?

"7-Zip compresses to 7z format 30-70% better than to zip format"

I hope, it's enough reason.

This is very true. We use backupbuddy to clone sites and the file on zip is 19.9 MB, but if you use 7z the file is only 14.2 MB. That is already big if you consider countries that have slow internet on uploading files.

I have some files I am testing. The direcrory is 125mb. With zip it comes to 30mb. With 7zip I am getting it down to 2mb. This is really amazing and aparently the software was coded by a single individual. Since I am dealing with 350gb and my internet connection is rather slow on the upload it would make a huge difference to be able to use 7zip.

edit.

I found out that bz2 works only with a single file so first make a tar and then bz2 of the tar. Gives good result of 5mb. Still not as good as 7z but not bad at all.
