Force email password change on 1st login

SitesPT shared this idea 5 years ago
Completed

When we create multiple email accounts we usually use the same password to all of them and then send it to the user.

We would like the user to be forced to change the email password upon his first login on his Webmail for increased protection.

Definitely! It's already planned to fold the new user manager interfaces into the existing user creation interfaces.

I'm going to go ahead and mark this as completed for now. If anyone has any reason that this wouldn't be considered completed, let me know!

I almost requested this myself. I think that we should have a checkbox in both account creation and with the password change utility in WHM.

Whe currently do this manually after creating a new password. Too many users don't listen to our advise and don't change their password on initial login.

@monarobase: indeed, this is very common in some systems. I remember Google Apps do this for example and I use another system where we are forced to type a secondary email where the temporary password is sent to, directly to the user, and where he can retrieve the password in case he forgets, all through this secondary email which everyone usually has one...

Either way, the point is to save admins some considerable time to just send the same password to all users and make them change immediately once they login.

Hey all! This request seems to be satisfied as part of the new user manager. As you create a user, you can indicate that you would like the user to set their own password, as they log in. This does require that the user defines an alternate email address, however. Does that solve the problem for you?

Is that in a new cPanel version? I can not see that in my version.

If it lets me define an alternate email address where the instructions to set the password then it works perfectly for me :)

Yup! The user manager was introduced in version 55, but the new password/user invitation form was introduce in version 56. The alternate email address is specifically for the invitation which allows them to set a password, rather than sending the password.

This is great! I totally missed it.

However, it would be great to have the same "alternate email address" field under "Add Email Account". Probably in a future release?
