iPhone mobile config file auto emailed on email account creation

Configuring iPhone email is still a PITA with cPanel but, a SUPER easy way to get iPhones (and others) configured will take some help from cPanel to make it happen via some URL redirects/scripts.

What would be nice is a Tweak Settings setting, so that for every new email account that's setup, a default welcome email is sent to the new users inbox. That email would contain instructions (that we get to configure/type via the setting) and link to their webmail account. Once they logged into that webmail account, they would be redirected to the cPanel "Configure Mail Client for xxx" screen where they could then easily tap the link for the software/phone they want to auto-configure.

This would be easy to document in a how-to video or knowledgebase articles via the WHMCS Welcome and support emails.

Thoughts?

You would expect that the email account that was just created has an email sent to it...or to another email address?

I would say the account created, as a start. This way they can open webmail from their phones, then click links from there. This would cut about 5 steps to get them to the auto configure screen. We could edit the email to let them know to ignore the iPhone "not signed" warnings and just continue clicking thru until thats worked out.

I recently started walking people through this process manually and it saves about 20+ minutes of config time, vs them manually doing it and messing things up, then having to call :) When clients are setting up 5-20 accounts, they are at the machine or phone so, opening the webmail account, opening a welcome email and auto-configuring seems to make the most sense instead of an elaborate phone config web app as some have requested.

Would moving the the instructions and auto-configure scripts onto the main index page of webmail (before you pick a webmail client) so that it's the very first thing you see after login have the same effect?

That would help! Great thought on how to handle configuring devices :) The whole having to login to cPanel, then click Accounts, then have to click the More button, then click the Configure Mail Client is a lot to ask of users. I'm more surprised by the day of how many people lack basic web page usage skills. LOL

Your recommendation is even more elegant than my email suggestion.. Thats about 2 steps less!

In version 62 we are including this fetaure. Newly-created email accounts may be optionally sent a "welcome" email with client configuration settings and an iOS .mobileconfig file to configure their email client(s).
