Update the pre-historic Mail Client Auto Configure scripts

Email handling is a huge pain in the ass for hosting providers, having the scripts for automatic Outlook and similar configuration it's a must.

The list of scripts in the latest version of cPanel is:

  • Windows Live Mail®
  • Microsoft Outlook 2000® for Windows®
  • Microsoft Outlook Express® for Windows®
  • MacOS® Mail.app® for “Pre Lion” (10.4+)
  • MacOS® Mail.app® for “Lion” (10.7+)

Erh, something's wrong, no?

That is really useful, mainly when dealing with several emails/clients.

Please cPanel, do consider this.

Any chance we could get it up to date? When?

Thanks,

So i posted this again to request it and it got rejected! this is a must HAVE.

Why do we pay for this when they do not care what we need? as off my next billing I'll start to use the Other Panel parallels.

Which mail clients would you like to see in that list?

Maybe it's a wording the issue.

Outlook 2000 and Mac OS Lion are both very old.

It should be something like Outlook 2000 and above and MacOS Mail.app for Lion and above

It does sound like you have to have a 14 year old Outlook or a 4 year old MacOS to use them

Do you have autodiscover/autoconfigure support disabled in WHM?

Please see the attached image for the most current list.

[dude, I think this forum's line breaking is bugged]

Thanks for the answer. Some mail clients I would like to see in the list:

Outlook 2002

Outlook 2003

Outlook 2007

Outlook 2010

Outlook 2013

MacOS Mail.app Version 6 (OS X v10.8 Mountain Lion (2012))

MacOS Mail.app Version 7 (OS X v10.9 Mavericks)

MacOS Mail.app Version 8 (OS X v10.10 Yosemite)

In my opinion as small web host provider, mail is the seven headed hydra of our business. It's crucial for the companies, even more than their website. I've just hanged up the phone with my client who had problems with his email yesterday after I migrated his account to my server. He called my home, my cellphone, WhatsApp and email.

When he managed to contact me (I was travelling for work) he said he was having financial loss because of this problem, when I finally understood he was using Google Apps for Business, I quickly adjusted his MX Records and it was working again.

There was a moment I got really afraid, he have his email since 2005, and when I contacted the previous hoster to try and get their emails to migrate to the new server, they said they had deleted his account already. Luckly it was Gmail, and everything's working fine now.

If it was being hosted at the server itself (it was cPanel too) it would be a HUGE pain in the ass. Years of contacts, emails and history lost.

All in all, having scripts for automatic configuration for Outlook is a great step already, but the email problem itself shoud be better studied for solutions to help mail migration with minimal offline time, with ease of access for cPanel users, not only IT experts.

Congratulations for hearing our complies.

Honestly I think this is the least a serious business who's commited to their product and their image should do, it's amazing that most don't, so, even if it's basic stuff, congratulations.

Hello,

Just turned it On, it was Off by default. Now I can see the same options as you!

Well, that's something already! I don't use Outlook myself, but I think this solves most of the problem regarding Outlook configuration. I still think it's very user unfriendly, a regular user wouldn't be able to solve his email problems like this, but that's another topic.

cPanel uses the same structure since 1996.

We are in the startup era, flat design, ease of use, intelligent tools, please, cPanel must evolve, for all internet's sake. It's not just a new theme, like PaperLantern, it's the User Experience itself, not only User Interface

Both of the Mac options are outdated and neither one works. Yosemite does not accept the 10.7+ script at all. We need this updated ASAP as many of my clients are on Mac.

Yes. Please update Mac script to Yosemite. It worked fine before Yosemite, the last version, 10.9?, then now it doesn't. It does give the security alert, which has to be manually accepted in System Preferences, but that's fine.

The current one doesn't work on Yosemite due to the version check, which compares the output of sw_vers -productVersion to see if it's greater than 10.7 - which 10.10 is not, despite being newer.

In 11.48 (which is scheduled to go to EDGE in the next few days), we will provide a .mobileconfig file that works on Yosemite

Did this push ever happen? I'm still seeing 11.47 as EDGE.

Yes, the push happened. The changes are available right now on the EDGE tier in the 11.47 builds. 11.47 is the development release of 11.48.

I'm using 11.50 and I still see the same options above. Outlook 2007/2010/etc or Thunderbird really would be nice to have added to this config. I've tried AutoDiscover and it rarely works correctly, even on an Exchange Server to an Outlook Exchange PC or Exchange mobile device. Have to always go to manual.. Would be nice if these options were in cpanel to autoconfig the newer email apps. Most of the ones listed are OLD and I'm embarassed to even send a user to this page.

Hey there! The older ones are in place for legacy reasons, but will eventually be deprecated and removed. As you saw on the other request this was resolved. I'm going to merge these two together to help confusion, bit the updates were added in 11.48. If there are any questions, let me know!
