As a system admin / web host who is frequently installing or reinstalling WordPress. I would like to have an option to select an HTTPS installation, this means that WordPress would not need to be reconfigured to HTTPS after installation via the plugin. The result is that installation time will be reduced and Wordpress can be natively installed on an SSL domain making things all a bit smoother.

Edited to add: We've had a few people reaching out to us to point out that WordPress content still gets the wrong protocol, so this request is not completed. We really appreciate all of you who reached out. We have set this back to open discussion and reopened comments, so please let us know if you have questions.

We did add force HTTPS redirect functionality in v80 that is not specific to the use case for WordPress, which you can read more about in the Version 80 release notes, and more about 80 overall on the Release Site.

I think this is a good idea. As a hosting compagnie, it would simplify our support with the clients.

HTTPS should be enabled by default if there's a valid SSL certificate installed for the domain.
